Today SVS is the largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to services for individuals with developmental disabilities in California and possibly the western United States.

SVS serves 3500 individuals with developmental disabilities every day.  Services are provided in, or coordinated from, 68 locations throughout the state (click here to see listing).  The organization employs approximately 1500 individuals to assist in its service delivery mission including 10 transportation specialists to coordinate transportation services utilizing a fleet of 420 SVS owned vehicles.

SVS issues 4000 individual paychecks during each pay period. In addition to its regular full time work force, checks are issued to approximately 2500 work training participants who are paid a combined annual total approaching $4 million - an important component of self support for many individual participants with developmental disabilities. The funds used for participants' pay comes from contractual agreements with hundeds of small and medium sized businesses, as well as, major corporations throughout California.

SVS today, by virtue of its size and scope, is an important employer in such large cities as Los Angeles, Long Beach, Bakersfield, Fresno, Oakland, San Jose and San Francisco in addition to the many small rural communities it serves. In many of these, SVS is a major source of employment and financial support.

SVS offers employees competitive salary and benefit packages. Participants' pay is established using procedures approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. Senior executive pay is established by a bi-annual compensation survey commissioned by the SVS Board of Director's Compensation Committee from a nationally recognized salary consultation firm.

Dr. Dawson with the Corporate Staff at the SVS Corporate North Office in San Francisco - 2008

In 1997 SVS developed a second corporate office in San Francisco in response to the need for enhanced oversight of client growth, business and personnel services and physical facility maintenance and repair.  This move, which required Dr. Dawson to spend one half of his time away from his home in southern California proved successful for the growth and stability of the organization.

SVS Central Valley Corporate Office - Fresno, CA - 2008

In 2007 SVS developed a third corporate office in Fresno. This office was again in response to needs imposed by greater client numbers as well as personnel, business and services integrity.

Although program and geographic growth has, over the years, come at short term costs, these have been outweighed by long term gains in management, service quality and overall financial stability. Because management expenses ane spread over a wide range of services, total overhead costs are far lower than those for most providers of similar services.
